It’s true that text marketing campaigns perform really well. However, to reap the benefits of SMS marketing, businesses need to ensure that certain crucial steps are followed before. These steps make sure that SMS marketing is done under compliance rules. Let’s have a look at these steps:

This is perhaps the most important step of all. One cannot start SMS marketing to their customers without first getting their consent. So how can you obtain customer consent?

There are multiple ways you can use to obtain customer consent for SMS marketing:

  • Website intake form: You can position an intake form on your website’s home page, landing pages, or as a pop-up. These intake forms on the website are often accompanied by a discount on sign-up. You may also add a checkbox followed by the statement: “I agree to receive text messages from {{company name}}. It may look something like this:

  • Text-to-join campaigns: Text-to-join campaigns have customers texting a specific number with the purpose of enrolling themselves for a particular campaign, which in this case would be receiving promotional text messages. For eg: “Text JOIN to 12345 to receive exclusive offers and updates.”
  • Use existing Email list: You can prompt your email subscribers to sign up for SMS marketing updates by including a clear CTA or link to a sign-up form in your email newsletters.
  • In-store sign-up: Keep your tablet or system ready and have customers fill in their email and SMS if they want to receive updates via intended channels. You can also have posters, and flyers with instructions on how to join the SMS list, or simply add a QR code that leads to a signup form.

Note: The process of obtaining consent includes using disclosure language that details exactly what kind of promotional/marketing material the customer would be receiving.

Opt-out mechanisms help businesses ensure that they reach out to actively interested customers and save them from being considered/marked as spam. You can simply add a sentence as such at the end of the text message: “ Reply STOP to unsubscribe from receiving these messages”

The TCPA stands for Telephone Consumer Protection Act. Businesses that wish to engage in text communication with their customers must comply with the TCPA guidelines. The first two points that we covered fall under the TCPA guidelines itself. Some other rules under the TCPA include: Adding business identification to the message, adhering to the agreed-upon content in the message (in line with what the consumer agreed to receive), keeping the frequency of messages in check, sending messages during appropriate hours, etc.

Businesses must secure the consumer information collected for SMS marketing purposes to prevent unauthorized access and ensure privacy.

Sending SMS marketing campaigns with Emitrr is fairly easy. You can either send automated campaigns or manual campaigns. Let’s have a look at both.

To send manual campaigns through Emitrr, simply follow these steps:

  1. Go to the left navigation panel and select “Campaigns>text campaigns”
  1. Select “Create Campaign” on the top right corner.

  2. Add all the required details. This is also the step where you choose whether you want to send the message immediately or at a later time.

  3. Upload a list of contacts or select from an existing list.

  4. Check the message preview and send.

Automated campaigns do not require manual intervention from the business’s team to send messages. Certain types of marketing messages such as recall messages, appointment reminders, review requests, etc usually follow one pattern and can be easily automated. The only thing you need to do to start the automated campaign is to ensure your CRM is integrated with Emitrr. Next, you can simply follow these steps:

  1. Go to the left navigation panel and select “Campaigns>CRM automations”

  2. Choose from the list of automations.
  3. Turn on the automation of your choice. (That’s it! The CRM integration will take care of the rest)

One of the important types of marketing messages you can send to your customers are the ones that are purely sent with the purpose of building a relationship with them. Birthday messages are a great way to show the customers that you care and to offer them personalized wishes and offers.

To send a personalized message you need to primarily know two things: Customers first name and their date of birth. (Apart from the phone number of course!)

Ideally, you would want to automate this process so that none of your customer’s birthday is missed. So how can you achieve this via Emitrr?

Emitrr offers 1000+ CRM integration options across various industries. This means that Emitrr can easily sync with your CRM system and obtain customer information such as first name and birthdate (if they are stored in your system).

Next, you can access the CRM automations mentioned in the section above and simply turn on the birthday automation. You can follow the same process for a season’s greetings automation.

What if you want to send a personalized offer to a certain list of customers? Well, you can then utilize the manual campaigns. You can add the intended message and make use of personalization tokens called “property” to add customer-specific information to the message.

Once you have customized your message using the appropriate placeholder, you can choose the contact or contact list and hit send!

SMS marketing is a robust marketing method that ensures that the business’s marketing efforts don’t go in vain and are delivered and read by the customers. SMS’s open rate of 98% really makes it stand out from all the other communication channels.

To send effective SMS marketing campaigns businesses need to ensure that they follow essential TCPA guidelines and obtain explicit consent from their customers to be able to send promotional SMSs.

Once they have obtained the consent they can start sending the marketing campaigns with the help of a SMS marketing platform like Emitrr. Such platforms not only help businesses send messages but also manage conversations through their conversation management features.

Schedule a demo with Emitrr today to learn how you can optimize your SMS marketing process all the while saving time and money!
